November Thus Far

Greetings, world. It's been a while. I apologize for the hiatus, but the biggest things occurring in my life weren't exactly bloggable (a word I am now trademarking). Here's what is currently going on...

Two good friends and I went to claims court yesterday in hopes of reclaiming our security deposits from our former landlord. This ordeal has played out over the last three months, and it was finally resolved yesterday. I fully expected a courtroom proceeding, but another more viable option came up. Before the judge began going down the docket, she announced the option of mediation, in which some consultants from the law school could attempt to help both parties (plaintiff and defendant) reach a settlement and avoid court proceedings. This sounded very appealing, so I turned to my co-plaintiffs, shrugged to indicate a "Why not?" opinion, and went for it. Our landlord was open to it as well, so we went to a side room in an attempt to settle.

In short, it went well. We came to an agreement after an hour without too much hassle. Honestly, the biggest hassle came from myself - for a while I let pride get in the way of settling things. I convinced myself that I wouldn't be happy unless we got $xxx from our former landlord. Thankfully, my friends had healthy outlooks and, by the grace of God, my pride went away and we managed to work out something wonderful.

My courtroom record remains at 0-and-0, and I am very pleased. I enjoyed representing my friends and myself in this ordeal; it was a great life experience, and I learned quite a bit. Overall, I'm ecstatic just to be done with this matter. Whew...

School is going very well. I am enjoying my classes thoroughly and learning great things, especially in my Social Inequalities class. I'm gaining a larger worldview and am beginning to see the disparities that exist in our country.

Also on the academic front, I ended up not getting nominated by the University for a significant scholarship in which I was interested. I was disappointed at first, but I realized that my worth is not affected by a committee of seven people (the interviewers; a ridiculous process, but good experience) or a scholarship. It took a lot of work just to apply, and I am very glad I did it.

The theme of my life at this point is... I DON'T KNOW. I'm at a point where nearly every area of my life leads to a giant question mark. It's not that I don't know what I might like to do or I'm not trying my best, it's simply a matter of not knowing what the future holds. All I know is that it'll be Good. I'm trusting God a LOT more than I would have even a few months ago. I'm learning, I'm growing, and I'm excited to see these question marks clear up. The adventure continues...
